Learn New Skills - Working from Home

Active Lancashire, More Positive Together (MPT) Case Study

“Before the current situation arose myself and Amy had scheduled in some changes on the Views system, which is the system we use for all data input and monitoring on the More Positive Together (MPT) project. We had also planned two days of training to upskill all mentors on the new changes and guidance moving forward into MPT Phase 2.

Unfortunately, we were all told to work from home and the training was postponed due to Covid-19. However, as the changes to views were still being made and scheduled to be complete soon, we had to find a way to show our mentors the updates. We decided to record some online training videos that would be uploaded to YouTube for the mentors to watch in their own time. This was the first time we had done anything like this so we were unsure where to begin. We did some research and found a screen recording software called OBS, this software picks up the sound from your mic and also the computer so we are able to fully record what was on our screen as well as talking through what we were doing. We then used Adobe Premier Pro to crop the videos down and take out any parts we didn’t need. Before we started recording the videos we wrote a few rough scripts for each episode to guide us through the video and give us prompts as we were talking. As we are both working from home we decided to record an episode each as we felt this would have been easier and reduce background noise. The videos were uploaded to YouTube as unlisted, and a link was sent to mentors to access the videos.

Since the videos have been sent out, we have had really positive feedback, with mentors saying they have been really helpful as they cover all the important parts clearly and they can also pause / rewind the videos to work along with them”.
