Katey Markland

Project Officer (Satellite Clubs)

I am the Project Officer for Satellite Clubs here at Active Lancashire.

My role is to support Ronan McMahon with all things Satellite Clubs and to provide support and development for all volunteers within the numerous Satellite Clubs.

I joined Active Lancashire in October 2014 after previously working at an Entertainment Agency and as a Horse Riding Instructor - quite varied jobs! I studied initially at Myerscough College where I completed a Foundation Degree in Equine Science and then moved on to UCLAN to do a Degree in Event Management before I went on to full time employment. Since starting at Active Lancashire, I have worked on Positive Together and Challenge Through Sport Initiative as a Project and Volunteer Officer.

I was totally non-sporty apart from riding horses until I signed up for a trail marathon in 2011 to raise money for charity. Since then, I have become a running addict; I have now ran several ultras including a 100 km trail run covering the entire St Cuthbert’s Way from Holy Island to Melrose in 2016. I run for Preston Harriers and prefer the challenge of fell running – throwing myself up and down hills into bogs is great fun! I love the outdoors and if I am not running I am out on my bike or with my two dogs.

Working for Active Lancashire’s Satellite Clubs enables me to promote the possibility of finding an activity which you love whether or not you feel like a sporty person while also working on an intervention which inspires, motivates and encourages young people to become more active and volunteer in their community.
