With 100 days to go until Rio 2016, we are looking to support the athletes of the future achieve their sporting goals. Young talented athletes from across Lancashire can apply for £500 through the Lancashire Rising Star Fund.
Run in association with Active Lancashire and The University of Central Lancashire, the fund awards grant of £500 to individuals to cover costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment and specialist coaching.
In addition, each recipient will have access to a package of support from UCLan that will include, strengthening and conditioning services, nutritional advice and support and access to UCLan Sports and training facilities.
Former recipients of the Lancashire Rising Star Fund include Olympic athletes Sophie Hitchon, Holly Lam-Moores and Holly Bradshaw.
Interventions like this at such a crucial time can often be the difference between a young sports person continuing and achieving in their chosen sport or dropping out.
Adrian Leather, Chief Executive at Active Lancashire said: “Families can spend well in excess of £5,000 a year on supporting young athletes progress in their chosen sport. We want to help to support aspiring athletes to achieve their potential and realise their dreams of competing at the highest level.
“With Rio Olympics just around the corner, we are excited to see what talent there is in Lancashire and you never know, this years’ Rising Stars might competing for the country in future Championships and Olympic and Paralympic Games!”
