About this event
Join us for ideas on how to manage, lead and develop your organisation, trying to ensure it is sustainable in the longer term.

We will introduce you to some recent research into sports clubs, supported by other developments, with the aim being to provide short interactive workshops that create a forum for peer learning and the sharing of ideas and solutions.

This interactive workshop will contain 20 minutes of presentation from Christopher Gunn, then it will be open for an informal discussion and Q&A's from attendees.

The link to join the online workshop will be sent to the email address you provide, prior to the event.

Who is Chris Gunn?

After holding a number of management positions within sport and education, Chris began working at the University of Central Lancashire where, for the last three years, he has been conducting research into grassroots sports clubs and governance.

His research, culminating in the submission of a doctoral thesis, has led to the development of a governance framework for practitioners: The 7F’s model. This model encapsulates the aims, purposes and ethos of the clubs studied which have been successful in recent years, in terms of ensuring their survival, growing their income and membership, and developing their facilities.

Chris has presented at regional and national conferences, served on various committees, and is passionate about helping other sports clubs in their governance and development. He has knowledge and background in marketing and management, sport policy, managing projects, funding and fundraising, as well as lifelong involvement in voluntary sector sport at various levels and capacities. He has recently conducted a crowdfunding campaign, and secured funding from Sport England, raising over £21,000 for new facilities.
In a number of online workshops over the coming months, Chris will present examples of effective practice, drawing on current and past research, and facilitate a supportive dialogue among attendees whereby peers learn from each other and share experiences.
